Is there a universal Portuguese?
Portuguese is the language of almost 200 million people in Brazil. It is also the official language in some countries in Africa (Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe), Asia (East Timor), and in Portugal. Although the language as spoken in Portugal is the rule in most former colonies, Brazilian Portuguese is different.
Unlike the other former Portuguese colonies, Brazil obtained its independence rather early, in 1822, and gradually lost touch with Portugal. Nowadays, the languages spoken in Portugal and in Brazil have become so different that their inhabitants may have a hard time understanding each other.
Brazilian is my business
Since the differences between Brazilian and European Portuguese are even greater in technical texts, I will only translate into Brazilian Portuguese. Translators should only translate into their native languages. To find an European Portuguese translator, e-mail me.
